Theodore is constantly teetering on the edge, it is difficult, almost impossible for him to break free, just like clicking in a cage.

First of all, this is a very sensual work, and, in my opinion, this is its main value: the dirty air of the streets and the taste of wine in small cafes in New York, random passers-by, the furnishing of a Hobby apartment, the hopeless, scorching heat of Texas and the pre-Christmas comfort of Amsterdam are conveyed so completely that every sentence is perceived as film footage. Critics compare this huge novel with the works of Dostoevsky and Dickens, but it seems to me that this comparison arose from the need to equate it with the classics, given its monumentality. In fact, Tartt is unlike anyone else, and in order to understand this, it is worth reading her other two novels: Little Friend and Secret History. Both are not similar to each other and do not look like anything at all, the author wrote each of the novels for ten years and this gives a certain idea of how seriously she takes her work.

Click uses an archetypal plot at first glance, because it tells about an orphan boy (and this brings us back to Dickens, and sometimes Harry Potter, that's what his closest friend calls Theodore). Unlike Potter and Oliver Twist, Theodore is hardly a hero or a role model. Starting from the theft of the painting and ending with the systematic use of drugs, the author seems to convince us that Theodore is far from a likable character and this is how he gets into our soul. It seems to me that I have never met such lively characters as in this novel. Hobby, Theodore, Pippa (another allusion to Dickens!) Who Theodore is in love with, his mother, whom we only know in memories. "From the frozen immobility of the photos, it's clear how much she distrusted the camera, exhaling menacingly like a tigress, defending herself from attack. But she wasn't like that in real life. She moved with incredible speed, her gestures were light, sudden, and she sat on the edge of a chair like a slender and graceful wading bird, ready to take off and fly away at any moment.

As much as there is a lot of suffering, pain and despair in this book, there is also a lot of poetry, beauty and love in it. Does this combination create just such a thing ??literature that you live rather than read, which can give the reader something more than just another story.
